‘Back To Hockey’ is a gentle introduction (or reintroduction) into hockey aimed at new or lapsed players. Hockey clubs deliver the sessions themselves providing an opportunity to play in a social and friendly environment.

The focus initially is around the basic skills required to play hockey; slowly increasing the intensity at a pace that you are comfortable with. The ‘Back to Hockey’ activators are fun, enthusiastic and there to help you!

‘Back to Hockey’ sessions run primarily during the summer months at the host clubs discretion. They are typically weekly and last 1 hour, which means a short term commitment that provides players:

  1. Introduction to the game
  2. Chance to get a bit fitter
  3. Learn new skills
  4. Play team hockey in a safe, fun environment
  5. The chance to make new friends

If you’re interested in returning to hockey outside of the programme times, please contact your local club for details on how to get involved.

I haven’t played hockey in ages. Does that matter?

It really doesn’t! In fact, you won’t be alone. Back To Hockey is designed specifically for you and the many others who have not played recently, or even at all. New people are always welcome to the sport!

I’m not very fit.

Also not a problem. There is no level of fitness expected here. Back2Hockey coaches will take into account your level of fitness when planning and delivering each session. They will be designed to improve your overall fitness over time.

How do I get started then?

Easy. Contact your local club running Back To Hockey from the table above.

If your local club is not currently running Back To Hockey, please get in touch via info@hockeywales.org.uk and we will let you know of your closest centre.
