On the back of a dramatic last minute winning goal against Cannock last weekend, Spartans went into a top of the table clash against Trojans knowing a win could keep them in the running for the top of the table.
In the freezing conditions Swansea started off a bit frosty allowing Trojans to have the majority of the possession for the first 15 minutes. The ongoing pressure led to a couple of Trojan short corners which were well kept out by the Spartan defence to keep the score line goal less.
Swansea soon found their feet and began to lay on the attacking pressure with some well worked build up play from the back. A well placed floated pass from Anna Reynolds created an attacking 2 v 2 resulting in the award of a short corner. A straight strike from the top smashed past the keeper into the backboard in true Kat Budd style taking the score to 1-0 on 24 minutes.
Riled by the goal Trojans went on the attack. A shot from the top of the D was masterfully smothered by Anna Lug Morris however Trojans were quick on the rebound and a goal line deflection by Anna Reynolds kept Swansea in the lead going into half time.
Half-time Swansea City 1-0 Trojans
With only one goal in it the second half was all to play for with both teams vying for the next goal. With Swansea gaining confidence the Spartans were awarded another short corner with Kat Budd creating a carbon copy of her first goal making it 2-0 to the Spartans after 49 minutes.
With still a decent amount of time left in the match Trojans kept up the pressure but Spartans managed the game well and continued searching for the third goal.
To the relief of the home crowd the final whistle was blown leaving the score at 2-0. An excellent team performance and a solid 3 points puts Swansea on an 8 match unbeaten run only 3 points of the top of the table.
